Sports massage surrey from Trudy Kuhn

What is Sports & Remedial Massage?

Many people will, at some point their lives, suffer from a sport-related injury. Most people however will suffer an injury without partaking in any kind of sporting activity and these are often the kind of person that doesn’t look for a sports massage specialist. After all, they didn’t injure themselves whilst playing sport so why would they?

It is a common misconception that you need to be active at sport to suffer from a sports-related injury but simple tasks, such as reaching up to a high shelf or bending town to tie your shoe-laces. These mimic the types of movement of someone playing sport. If your body is suffering from any kind of fatigue or is generally not prepared for the exertion then this is when injury can occur.

How can Sports & Remedial Massage help me?

Any sportsperson places stresses on their body by frequent training & competitions. Rest days, stretching, good diet & hydration will help the body recover but sometimes more is needed. Sports massage will aid blood circulation removing waste products from tired muscles & will stretch out muscles that have become tight from repeated use. We have seen many patients in Carshalton complaining of injuries after playing golf or running although this is not an exclusive list of injury culprits!

Many athletes use regular sports massage to help maintain optimal athletic performance. Sports massage is also an effective way of detecting minor soft tissue problems & dealing with them before a more serious injury occurs.

It is an excellent way of relieving tension & tiredness allowing the body to relax. Examples of sports injuries that can benefit from sports & remedial massage treatment are sprains, strains, Achilles tendonitis, Runners’ knee, shin splints, Tennis/Golfer’s elbow, plantar fasciitis, piriformis syndrome & tight muscles generally.

I don’t do sport. How can I benefit from Sports & Remedial Massage?

Muscle tension can affect anyone. Remedial massage can offer help to those who suffer from back, neck or shoulder pain which may be brought on by decorating, gardening or even driving. Many postural problems occur as a result of sedentary activities such as sitting at a computer all day. These problems can be treated in the same way as those of an active sportsperson. Repetitive strain injury, whiplash, frozen shoulder, headache, migraine, stiff neck & backache can all be relieved with deep tissue massage. Stress & tiredness are also common problems that can be alleviated.

I have a medical condition & may need surgery. Is Sports & Remedial Massage suitable for me?

Sports & remedial massage is often very beneficial for those who have had an operation as it will help a body regain full function & movement. Physical disabilities & systemic illness can also be aided. It is important to mention here that for some conditions massage is not a suitable treatment but a qualified practitioner will be able to offer advice on this. They will also seek advice from your medical team in order to provide treatment that is suitable for your condition.

After suffering from chronic bad back pain for as long as I could remember I was recommended to visit Trudy and her relaxed manner and amazing knowledge of the body really helped me work to correct my posture and home-working setup and I’m seeing great results already
Jason M, 39 yr old man
I decided to take up active exercise and found I was suffering from regular aches and pains in my shoulders. After a few quick sessions with Trudy I realised that I actually had tissue damage and needed to change my exercise routine. With new strengthening exercises I am able to complete an exercise class without the recurring pain
Karen M, 50 yr old lady
I have been running pretty much all my adult life and time has taken its toll on my joints and my recovery time between events has been greatly reduced which has left my training schedule almost non-existent so when I visited Trudy and she was able to help me reduce my recovery time it was like having my youth given back to me. I have now completed 5 more marathons that I thought I wouldn’t have been able to do!
